Weather in Our World

This term our Science unit is called Weather in Our World. We are exploring all the different ways we can describe weather and what the difference is between different seasons. It is a fantastic unit of work to kick off Kindergarten because all we have to do is look around and think about what we can see and feel. We are all experts of lots of different types of weather.

But this year we have decided to go further…

KC 2015 started an online project today called #weatheratmyschool. We are getting in touch with schools in other parts of the world to find out what the weather is like in other places as well.

We know that here in Sydney it is the end of Summer and most days are fairly warm, sometimes a bit hot and humid, and some days windy and a bit wet. On the other side of the world it is Winter and it is really freezing cold, snowy and icy.

Each day (starting today) we are taking a photo from just outside our classroom to show what sort of weather is at our school today. We are tweeting using our new twitter account @wpskc with #weatheratmyschool.

So far (on day 1) we have teachers from Michigan, Arizona, New York, Texas, Missouri, Kentucky and Washington. We loved looking at their photos today and posting our own photos.  We found out that lots of schools in America were closed yesterday because of snow, ice or wind. It is hard to imagine in Summery Sydney! We are looking forward to getting even more followers from Australia and around the world to share in our learning.

Here are our first 2 photos taken this week by Olivia. In the morning it was partly cloudy and warm and in the middle of the day it turned windy and the clouds got darker.
